Pilgrimage Choir Rehearsals Continue

NEW YORK, NY - The second in a series of rehearsals in preparation for religious services to be held in the Holy Land during the January 2000 Pilgrimage will take place on Saturday, July 17, 1999, at the Diocese of the Armenian Church, 630 Second Avenue, New York City, under the direction of Maestro Khoren Meikhanedjian. The music of the Nativity, and in particular that of the Baptism of Christ will be the field of concentration. As an added feature of the forthcoming rehearsal/workshop, the assembled choir will hear a presentation by the the Very Rev. Fr. Haigazoun Melkonian, Pastor of the Armenian Church of the Holy Martyrs, Baside, NY, on the treasures of the Holy Land.

On June 12th, the choir rehearsed for the first time a new work titled "Jerusalem" composed by Prof. Meikhanedjian especially for the occasion of the forthcoming Pilgrimage, with lyrics written by Garo Garabedian. This will be reviewed on the July 17th and the following rehearsal on August 28th, with an anticipated debut in Jerusalem in January.

Although the Jerusalem 2000 Workshops are intended mainly for those participating in the Pilgrimage, all choir singers who wish to attend are welcome. For further information, contact the choir coordinator Ms. Mary Selvinazian at (718)423-5680.
