The Central Council of the Choir Association is pleased to announce the continuation of its scholarship programs, made possible on the basis of interest earned through the ACEF from various memorial funds and contributions. The following scholarships are available:
Three $100 scholarships for the St. Nersess Summer Conferences, to be held at St. Nersess Seminary, New Rochelle, NY
Three $100 scholarships for Music Course, Voice or Organ Lessons
The St Nersess Seminary Summer Conferences will have four programs in the Eastern Diocese:
Deacons Training (June 26 - July 25)
High School (July 17 -26)
Junior High School (July 29 - August 2)
Post High School (College) - August 17-23
The goal of the conferences is to expand the participant's knowledge of the faith and history of the Armenian Church as well as the cultural heritage of our people, while exploring the application of these to their lives. The conferences will include daily worship, bible study, lectures by clergy and lay educators, discussions, personal direction, field trips, Armenian folk singing and dancing, and recreational activities. For more information on registering for the above sessions, contact the Rev. Fr. Stepanos Doudoukjian, Director of the Conferences, at (518)274-3673, or the Rev. Fr. Arakel Aljalian at St. Nersess Seminary (914)636-2003.
The Margaret E. Hagopian Scholarship Fund has been earmarked for choir singers and altar servers actively participating in their choirs for a minimum of one year, who will be enrolling in courses such as Music History, Music Appreciation, Music Theory, Composition or Vocal Instruction. It is also offered to organists for developmental skills and to choir directors for instruction and improvement in conducting their choirs. Individual parishes may also apply for this scholarship to be used toward programs for the improvement of their own local choirs. Details explaining such programs must accompany the application. This scholarship award for all categories may be granted only for three consecutive years for the same applicant. Applicants may reapply after a lapse of one year.
Please publicize these scholarship programs among your choir members and altar servers. Application forms must be received, along with a letter from their Parish Priest, or in the absence of a Priest, from the Parish Council Chairperson. Deadline for the submission of scholarship applications is one week prior to the beginning of each conference, and for the Margaret E. Hagopian Scholarship, September 1, 1998.
